The Liebster Award

A couple of months ago we were awarded the Liebster Award by Loving Life with Cass. As you may have seen on our website we’ve been busy traveling and of course writing about it and therefore haven’t been able to post about the award until now. We would like to thank Cass for the award!! And, we encourage you to check out her website. Having just traveled to Montreal a post like her Best Coffee Shops in Montreal comes in handy!

If you don’t know, the Liebster Award is an award that is given by bloggers to other bloggers. Liebster is German for beloved, or dearest. The goal is to discover new blogs and part of accepting the award is answering the following questions posed by the nominator, which in our case is Cass.

Who would you like to thank for helping your blog’s success?

We owe a lot of thanks to Diana and Hope of MVMT - Travel Beyond Bounds.  They were instrumental in helping us grow our site earlier this year!  We had the chance to meet Diana and Hope in-person at the NY Times Travel Show.

We would also have to thank our good friend Kris Chen. She has helped us design our website and created our Escape the Winter video.  Kris was extremely helpful in the early stages of developing our website and we are grateful to her!

Why do you blog?

We blog because we want to help other travelers think about how they spend their money when they travel.  So much money is filtered back into major international corporations in the tourism industry and so little actually stays in the communities you travel to.  We really only began noticing this when we were living in Jordan as Peace Corps Volunteers.  Since then we’ve been very conscious about where we spend our money when we travel and also at home. We’re hoping our blog will help inspire others to think this way too.

What is the greatest adventure you have been on?

Serving in the Peace Corps has probably been the greatest adventure we’ve been on together. Perhaps it sounds cheesy but it’s when we met and our relationship developed during our service.  It was also a very challenging and rewarding experience.  We had to learn to live and operate in a new culture and language, which helped us learn a lot about ourselves and our own culture and values.  Our service has really shaped who we are as people and travelers.

What makes your blog unique?

Our blog is unique because of our strong focus on impactful travel, travel that benefits local businesses and ultimately the local economy. This means supporting locally owned and operated hotels, locally sourced restaurants, visiting local craft breweries and wineries, and shopping at locally owned shops.

What are your blogging goals for 2017?

We definitely want to increase our following on social media and readership of our posts and collaborate more with destinations.

Where are you going on your next trip?

Our next trip is to the Caribbean! We plan on snorkeling, scuba diving, and lounging around the beaches for a week! Our trip will take us to four different islands! Make sure you follow our social media accounts to see where we go!

If you could do anything in the world right now, what would it be? (You have no money or technical restrictions)

We would pack up our things (and our cats) and travel back to the lake house where we just returned from (blog post to come). We spent a long weekend swimming in Lake Memphremagog, playing games and cooking with friends, gazing up at the stars, and living without the internet.
